dcheroworld.cjb.net, is a fansite developed by myself (David Lee Andrews) as a sort of a notice-board / outlet to express love for my favourite hobby (COMICS!).

I started reading comic books when I was very young (at the age of about 5), then stopped as I was growing up. Then at the age of 14 I started reading comics again. I walked into my local newsagents looking for a computer magazine (which I was getting a swat at), and I could not find the computing magazine that I normally buy (Your Sinclair, for the ZX Spectrum). As I was looking around the various shelves I noticed a rather dark and gloomy comic, when I picked it up I recognised it to be Detective Comics (staring the Batman). Thumbing threw the pages I briefly recollected my childhood days of getting comics with my Dad and my brother; getting a rejuvenating high of seeing all the colourful characters with flashy costumes. I bought the comic (TEC #630, Published June 1991, titled '… and the executioner wore stiletto heels', written by Peter Milligan, drawn by Jim Aparo). IT WAS THE DOGS BOLLOCKS (That means it was good).

This gradually led me to collecting initially only Batman related comics, then the JLA and then the JLA characters individual titles (FLASH, GREEN LANTERN etc…), then a mixture of edgy and more vertigo-esque titles to rather flamboyant and campy stuff.

I started finding different comic speciality shops around London (and worked in a comic shop in South London called Skinny Melinks as a holiday relief staff / Saturday morning assistant). I had a standing order; I read magazines about comics; I was collecting posters, models and action figures based on comic book characters… I was becoming a COMIC BOOK BUFF.

To say I was obsessed is an understatement.

I have the whole comic thing under control now, knowing when to NOT buy the multi-part crossover event that says 'Nothing will be the same again', but means 'Please give generously'.

Comics are a nice form of escapism, just remember life can be as well.
